The standards set forth in this manual for accrediting member schools of the Virginia Independent Schools Association (VISA) are directed toward the further strengthening of independent schools in Virginia. The directors of VISA are constantly aware of the responsibilities member schools have in providing excellence in educational opportunities. The directors believe that the implementation of these standards will provide a foundation for a strong educational program for students enrolled in member schools.
Planning for improvement must be continuous. New directions in educational philosophy or objectives must be justified by changes in circumstances, student personnel, community interests or other fundamental factors governing the program of the school. Each school seeking accreditation by VISA shall file with the accreditation committee a clear statement setting forth its educational philosophy and aims.
The accrediting process of VISA has been approved by the Virginia Council for Private Education (VCPE). Member schools are to reflect the philosophy and objectives of the standards set by VISA. These standards went into effect September 2000 and have been revised in 2005, 2011, 2016 and again in 2021.
The Virginia Independent Schools Association does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, ethnic, national, or religious origin.
